Day 61 - Box Bike Day - Athens, Greece

The moment has come to pack up our beloved bikes with one roll of tape, IKEA kitchen knife and cardboard.
Give the bikes a last hug
David and Gabs are sad. A good trip is almost over.
The dismantling continues
We strip our bikes to its bare bones
Fits perfectly if you take the wheels, fenders, fork and dismantle the brakes. No biggie.
David’s bike also fits perfectly.
Put our frames in Rinko/bike bags to avoid scratches.
Getting closer!
The fridge box is deep
Our staging ground. Both frames fit in the wheelchair box and all our wheels and forks fit in the fridge box.
Gabs is exhausted.
Taping it up! We hope each doesn't weigh more than 50lbs/23kg.

Metro ride to visit some old ruins in one of the metro stations.
While building the metro station in 2001, they uncovered a river they thought was dormant along with multiple layers of development dating as far back as 4-5th century BC.
An ancient covered walkway over the river. The river is underneath and the river used to be used as a sewer.
So many escalators!
Also a museum in another metro station. This is a "Beehive Box". Not sure what that is.

Notice there are no advertisements! We later learned this was due to an inter-transit-agency turf war.

Modern day ruins
There are a lot of stray cats but the people take care of them like they would birds. No names, food out.
Parliament
David walked through Exarcheia neighborhood. Graffiti level jumped up to 11.

For some reason the street lights don't go on until actual total darkness and with everything closed it makes things spooky.
Now, whenever I see "Victoria" I will pronounce it "Biketopia" and say I am Greek.
