Day 63 - HOME!! The Last-er Day - Dallas, Texas to Portland, Oregon

We thought we would be home yesterday. But instead out plane from Athens to Dallas was late enough, we missed the connection. We got re-booked on an 11am flight today. What's one more night in a random place?

We'll have more of a final recap once we settle in.

Bummer we only had one night here. Imagine Gabs using all the facilities.

In the morning, the airport shuttle bus is much less party bus mode. No blue lights.

I demanded our first food in the US was chicki-biscuits.

Hmmm. Looks like out bikes were able to make the flight last night.

Our bikes were not on the carousel and instead in this weird room since they came last night.

And needed burritos. We hadn't had a pinto bean in months.

Day 62 - The Final Day? - Athens, Greece to Dallas, Texas

Little did we know that it would be more like 48 hours remain…

Saying goodbye to Athens

We carried our packed bike boxes the 500 m to the train station. Trip one: team carry. Trip two: shopping cart we found on the street. Unfortunately not pictured, due to an incredible rush.

Nobody else on the platform to take our box and bag while we ran the second trip. We were literally running and had 2 minutes to spare.

The non-bike vestibules are tiny.

Gabs watches the boxes in the bike space. Thankfully no bikes.

For the next people who try to take bikes on the Athens suburban rail, the doors with bike stickers have fold-up seats and a large space to rest bikes. No hooks.

Made it to the airport. The train left surprisingly quickly, so glad we got everything out.

Somehow thank god someone had left a luggage cart on the train platform. Even though you definitely weren't supposed to take the airport carts into the train station.

Airport stop gates tormented us. We had to buy paper tickets the day before at a subway station, since the suburban rail station had not tickets. Then you have to tap on and tap off with the paper ticket. Then these gates at the airport took our ticket but then the door wouldn't open. We just tailed someone else.

Really glad we had the cart.

We didn't have a way to weigh our boxes beforehand, but the scale at the airport told us we had one over, and one under, so we opened them and swapped a wheel. Thank goodness there was a "luggage wrapping" place with tape.

We wait for our gate. We also help 100 people find gate C33; note the arrows point in opposite directions. It was amazing how hard it was for everyone.

International flight bb.

It was incredibly cold.

We have arrived in DFW. Sarah on the lookout for our bikes.

Saw this one quick.

Plane arrived late, so we have 45 min to do everything. Sarah is power walking.

Our boxes had other plans. Stare at this photo for one hour for the realistic experience.

It appears. In the meantime, Sarah waits in the customer service line and learns that we don't have enough time and we get set up for the night and on a flight in the morning.

This hotel appears to be two hotels encased in a larger building.

Not a bad place to spend one extra night. We appreciate a fully functional hot shower.
