Day 51 - Carsick - Theth, Albania to Lezhë, Albania
August 6, 2026 - biked 49 km (31 mi), bussed 76 km (47 mi) - biked 1793 km (1114 mi) total
Woke up in beautiful Theth. Highly recommended visiting Theth. Also recommend the hike but don’t biking for several days afterwards.
At 11am we took a gentle rocking-to-sleep or a gentle rocking-to-nausea bus ride back to Shkodër to retrieve our bikes.
Our calves are intensely sore. So are the quads. We can barely walk downstairs. This is the sorest we’ve been on the entire trip. Our bodies are wrecked after one hike. Mistake. Big mistake.
Almost sunrise but went back to sleep.
Sarah is up and thinking about how sore her legs are going to be today.
The view from our room is still spectacular.
Albanian farmers breakfast. Fig jam rocks.
Bus winds up crazy switchbacks out of town.
Saw a prison on the way back into Shkodër.
Got our bikes back from the apartment owner. Ready to ride again.
To Tiranë, yes.
We followed an old railroad for a very long time. Roads were bumpy and narrow.
It's The Jug Emporium! Buying and selling and storing em!
Farmland.
Sarah discovers her new favorite drink. Also for some reason this store priced everything in "old lekë" which is just 10x the numerical value. But no this soda wasn't 800, it was 80.
Getting hot.
Still so many bunkers everywhere.
Rolling into Lezhë behind a brick truck.
Sunset was pretty.
Traffic in Lezhë was bonkers. Cars would randomly put on their blinkers and stop absolutely anywhere and then everyone would route around them all crazy.
Made it to Camping Ishull Lezha, a delightful empty grass field with a very busy bar out front.
